WHEN: May 15, 2019 – July 15, 2019 WHERE: Ellinger Gray Barn (206 TX-71, Ellinger, TX 78938) Fayetteville Barn (2955 FM 955, Fayetteville, TX 78949) La Grange Red Wood Barn (3528 TX-71, La Grange, TX 78945) Smithville Red Barn (1191 TX-71, Smithville, TX 78957 WHAT: LIFEWTR®, the premium bottled water brand that believes art is as essential to life as water, is unveiling a series of Art BRN projects across four locations spanning Highway 71 in Ellinger, Fayetteville, La Grange and Smithville, TX. The projects showcase a series of old barns turned into roadside art attractions, colorfully juxtaposed against America’s rural landscape, and are each curated by artists born and bred in Texas. From May 13 - 15th, LIFEWTR collaborated with a set of local schools to host artist workshops – including Smithville High School, Wisdom High School and Travis High School. Students were encouraged to engage with the artists behind the Art BRN projects and create their own art pieces that are now being sold as $5 prints from vintage, Art-o-mat machines at each barn location. Proceeds from the machines will help raise funding for the schools’ art education programs. Local media, photographers and visitors are invited to visit these unique locations to capture photos of the barns, read inspirational stories from the local artists, and engage with the vintage, Art-o-mat vending machines on-site. WHO: The barns were curated by the following artists, all of whom have ties to the Texas area: - Ana Marietta: Ana’s skillset to create large-scale murals and street pieces have been recognized around the world for her subtle brush strokes and shading of hybrid creatures that bear her signature beaks and human-like eyes. Based out of Houston, TX, Ana believes that public art demonstrates that we all have something in common—the need for free expression as an individual and as a society. Her purpose as an artist is to inspire others to develop their skills and use her talent as a tool to promote art education, in all possible ways and means. - Joerael Numina: Joerael is a narrative artist from Saint Angelo, TX with a focus on creating complex figurative works that focus on the subtle body, psychological imprint and the metabolic hum. In the case of our water resource and the future environmental variations and changes, Joerael believes art will and does make the world a more bearable place. His work depicts the depth of what art education provides, how it is crucial to our personal experience, personal growth and the problem solving of our future. - Jason Eatherly: Jason is a muralist and contemporary fine artist creating and living in Austin, TX. He is known for his love for the beautification of lost spaces, his transparency, and the courage and commitment to trying new and different things. Jason feels as if he was put here to show others that they can dig really deep into whatever their heart desires. He believes that art education is crucial for our communities to give the youth powerful imagery and inspiration to grow creatively and to provide them a voice when they feel alone. - Zuzu: Zuzu is recognized for her bright energetic style with a focus on free-flowing and technical use of color, movement and design. Based out of Austin, TX, her fearless personality has allowed her to merge her experience with street art and graffiti with fine art and large-scale mixed media. Zuzu believes in using her artwork as a means to encourage younger generations to utilize their creative strengths and to connect with the inner artist that exists within each of us. WHY: Based on 2010 Census Data, Texas is one of the lowest funded states for art education – and one of the only states without state-wide programs benefiting arts education.
